Samsung Galaxy Beam Combines Phone with Projector

Samsung Galaxy Beam Combines Phone with Projector

Samsung's Galaxy line of smartphones and tablets just got a new addition to the family and this one is being made for people who want to show videos and photos on the wall in addition to the touch screen. Samsung's press release today announces the Galaxy Beam, which has a projector embedded in the smartphone's 12.5 mm casing. This is actually a new version of a previously launched product which Samsung first released in in mid-2010.

The 15 lumens projector can beam images of photos or slides or even show videos on walls and ceilings with an image of up to 50 feet across. While there are obvious business applications, Samsung is also marketing the Galaxy Beam to regular smartphone owners who might, for example, want to make a birthday party more memorable by showing YouTube videos on a wall.

The smartphone runs on Android 2.3, has a 4 inch display and a 1 GHz dual core processor. It has a whopping six GB of memory and eight GB of included storage with a MicroSD slot for more storage. It also has a five megapixel rear camera and a front facing camera. Samsung has yet to announce pricing or a release date yet for the Galaxy Beam but it's scheduled to be demoed this coming week at the World Mobile Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain.
